About

Why this project

Most chess players play hundreds of fast games and hardly ever review them. Experience piles up, understanding does not: the same mistakes repeat from game to game.

Chess Fundamentals offers another way. It finds the positions in your games where you thought the longest — that is where the game was decided. Work through them yourself, without an engine, write down your thinking and discuss it with a coach. That is how you grow your thinking at the board, not just your game count.

Author

I'm Mark Emdin, a chess player and developer. I built this site myself and I answer students' questions in the coaching section.
